The newly released racing game Forza Horizon 6 is already becoming one of the biggest gaming successes of 2026.
Just days after launch, the game surpassed more than 6 million players worldwide, while also breaking multiple franchise and Steam records.

Japan Setting Wins Over Players and Critics

One of the biggest reasons behind the game’s explosive popularity is its long-requested setting: Japan. From the neon streets of Tokyo to mountain roads designed for drifting, players are praising the world design as the best in the series so far.

Critics have also responded extremely positively. Reviewers highlighted the mix of massive urban environments, countryside roads, and detailed atmosphere that make the open world feel more alive than previous Horizon games.

Many players especially enjoy:

- Japanese car culture inspiration
- Improved drifting mechanics
- More detailed cities and mountain roads
- Enhanced weather and lighting effects
- Larger and denser world design
- Steam Numbers Reach Record Levels

Forza Horizon 6 was already a commercial success before launch. The game reportedly generated more than 500,000 Steam pre-orders, producing nearly $30 million in revenue ahead of release.

During Early Access, the game hit over 172,000 concurrent Steam players, already doubling the previous franchise record. After full launch, player numbers continued climbing and eventually peaked at more than 284,000 concurrent players on Steam.

These numbers only represent Steam users and do not include Xbox or Game Pass players, which helped push the total player count beyond 6 million.

Next-Generation Technology Makes a Huge Difference

Forza Horizon 6 was developed exclusively for current-generation hardware and PC, allowing Playground Games to fully utilize modern technology.

The game introduces:

- Ray-traced global illumination
- Improved reflections and lighting
- More detailed car models
- Better environmental rendering
- Smoother 60 FPS performance modes on consoles

Players on Xbox Series X/S and PC have praised the visual quality, with many calling it one of the best-looking racing games ever released.

Familiar Formula, But More Refined Than Ever

Although the core Horizon gameplay formula remains familiar, many reviewers believe this is the most polished entry in the franchise.

Driving physics have been refined, vehicle sounds are more realistic, and the progression system has been improved with the return of fan-favorite mechanics from earlier games.

Some criticism has been aimed at the story and dialogue, but overall reception remains overwhelmingly positive.

A Huge Start for Xbox and Playground Games

Forza Horizon 6 arrives at an important time for Xbox, and the game’s launch performance has already exceeded expectations.

With millions of players, record-breaking Steam activity, and strong critical reception, the game is quickly establishing itself as one of the biggest racing titles of the generation.
